After a decade-long hiatus, American producer James Cook, known under his moniker Black Point, returns with a striking new release EP 2 out now on Tokyo-based FORM@ Records.
Best known for his earlier LP Sleep Deep, Mountain King (Greta Cottage Workshop, 2013) and the enigmatic EP 1 (Out to Lunch, 2015), James Cook’s music has always walked the line between introspective IDM and deep, emotive house music.
With EP 2, Black Point revisits the decade that followed his last release, each track acting as a sonic time capsule, capturing the moods, shifts, and landscapes of his journey. The record features four cuts that oscillate between deep ambient reflections and hypnotic house grooves.

One of the standout tracks, “Under the Power Lines,” dives into a melancholic four-on-the-floor rhythm inspired by the roots of Chicago and Detroit. The result is both nostalgic and forward-thinking, a sound that feels like coming home, yet moving somewhere entirely new.
“Each track is a memento — a snapshot of time and place,” Cook reflects through his work, merging layers of textured synths and analog warmth that echo his early influences from the IDM scene.
The EP was mastered by Miles Whittaker and released digitally on September 28, 2025, through FORM@ Records, marking a symbolic closure of one chapter and the beginning of another for Black Point’s sound.
